Backyard Rat Breeders
pandaids: rescuedratties: I hate seeing that someone’s pet rat just had babies. These posts make me very sad. If all pet owners had some common sense, they would figure out why so many people are against backyard breeding, and maybe even become a more responsible pet owner by preventing future litters. It’s not a good thing when your pet has babies. I know a lot of people wouldn’t agree… I’m...

nevermoreson asked: Any tips to getting my very terrified, formally feeder, rat to calm down? The day we brought her home, we got her to be pretty relaxed with us, and the next day she seemed even better, but after swooping down to pick her up a bit roughly a few times, she seems to have become ridiculously terrified of the world again. I'm trying to handle her as much as possible and get her to eat treats from...

danachen: Ducks and Clucks — Tough Day: Warning, Graphic Images This is kind of a ranty post, but I read Tiffany’s story on Ducks and Clucks about an injured hen whose owners did nothing to end the her suffering — it made me want to let it out. Please read her post, especially if you own chickens. Anyway, among Tiffany’s rules for injured chickens is this: If you cannot bring...

Just fed the ratties;
noahschnipke: They seem content. I’ll probably be getting them out later. I want to maybe introduce Miles and Bobby. Bobby hasn’t been with rats since his cagemate died (I adopted him because of this; I have enough cages where he could live alone) but now that I only have two boys, I’d like to see if they could live together. I’m just worried they’ll hurt each other. Any suggestions on how to...

rescuedratties-deactivated20130 asked: That sucks about the Yesterdays News. I always recommend it :( Now I feel horrible to find out that there may be harmful ingredients in it. Is this a new addition, or has it always been that way? Is it for all Yesterday's News litters, or just the scented ones? Would it list pine or cedar in the product ingredients? >.>

bedding related annoucement:
yesterday’s news is no longer rat safe. some older rat care websites list it as a good choice, when the company that makes it has added softwoods to the recycled paper mix. softwoods like cedar and pine contain aromatic oils. they smell good to us, but they will make rats sick. it hurts their respiratory systems. a good alternative is petsmart’s exquisicat paper cat litter....
